I have spoken to several friends about how safe it is working on the border. The toilet block of the previous clinic was shelled about three years ago when there was an incursion by the burmese army. This is all that remains, just a few metres from my favourite restaurant.

  1. My Dad had a war time story about actually being on the carzi (?sp) when the latrine block of his barracks, somewhere in Belgium I think, took some bomb damage. He didn’t come to any harm but took a lot of ribbing about it from his mates. Emerged from the rubble with trousers down by his ankles, you get the picture… Hope no such a perturbing experience mars your time on the border!
